Description

In the1970's in the small waterman's town of Oxford, Md. there were some very talented craftsmen in the marine industry who built and maintained pleasure boats and work boats with special features ideal for the shallow Chesapeake Bay creeks and summer storms. Wind Song was not going to be a "Production Boat". She was designed by famed naval architects Kaufmann and Ladd. This is a "one off" yacht intended to be a comfortable sailing cruising boat very capable of cruising to the Bahamas, Maine, and virtually anywhere a true sailor wants to go with a shallow draft full keel and centerboard. The current knowledgeable owners have meticulously maintained the boat in pristine condition, so it's in "Sail-Away Condition". This is the boat dreams are made of. Description

One of the most beautiful yachts on the Bay. Wind Song is admired wherever she goes. A Bugeye Ketch rigged custom yacht with sharply raked, tapered masts and Marconi rigged self tacking sails, she features a large and open cockpit. Set up for comfortable, easy and safe handling as a "Coastal Cruiser" she has ventured between the Chesapeake Bay, the Bahamas and Florida Keys. Her shallow draft with the centerboard up gets her into anchorages not accessible to most boats her size. In deeper waters the centerboard drops and adds a more balanced helm and easier steering. She is in top condition and looking for her next owner. The Current owners have sailed her for 17 years and completed many extensive upgrades. She is fast, elegant, and comfortable for day sailing, weekending, or extended cruising.

Construction

Wind Song was built by Don Loweree in Oxford, Md. designed by Kaufman and Ladd and launched in April 1979.

The Hull is built of SOLID Fiberglass, hand laid using Sea-Flex lath over a male mold. Bottom soda blasted and 5 barrier coats applied in 2018. (There are no signs of blisters). In 2016, the old teak decks and substrate were removed and new marine plywood and epoxy decks were installed with non-skid paint by the well known Cutts and Case Boatyard in Oxford, Md. known for their impeccable craftsmanship and joinery work throughout.

Sails and Rigging

The Sails are "Egyption Cream" with lazy jacks and stackpacks made by Chuck O'Mally (with Doyle Sails) in Annapolis, Md. in 2010 and in excellent condition.

The masts are hollow aluminum spun tapered spars refinished and painted with Awl grip in 2010.

The Jib is self tacking on a club boom and Harken roller furler.

All standing rigging was replaced in 2010 by the Oxford Boat Yard in 2010

Engine

The original Westerbeke was removed in 2019 and replaced with a New Beta 30.

Excellent access and easy maintenance from the cockpit and/or from the main cabin.

This included all systems including fuel, exhaust, engine electronics and panel. The engine currently has 650 +/- and has been impeccably maintained.

3 Blade Max-Prop, new cutlass bearing, and 45 gallon aluminum diesel tank with racor primary filters.

Underbody and Performance

Contemporary easily driven shoal draft with shallow cutaway forefoot keel containing the faired centerboard foil.

Inboard balanced spade rudder with Edson steering gear.

Cruising speed is 6.5 knots at 2750 RPM while burning .6 gal/hr and WOT is 7.5 at 3500 RPM.

Under sail Wind Song will reach at 7.5 knots for an extended time in the open ocean. She will surf at over 8 knots on a following sea. On a 135 degree reach, she will sail half the true wind speed in flat water.

Interior

Large and Airy main saloon with 6'6" headroom. Custom drop leaf table and convertible 7' berths. Lots of storage under berths and in floorboards as well as along sides.

Galley has 2019 Dickinson propane stove and refrigerated ice box that operates on 12 and 110 volts. Large storage drawer and custom storage for China. David Cox is a Certified Professional Yacht Broker (CPYB) selling previously owned sail and power boats out of the Annapolis office with North Point Yacht Sales since April 2011. Growing up on the Eastern Shore, David was constantly on the water racing one design sailboats competitively and continued his passion for racing sailboats competitively with off-shore races including 5 Newport to Bermuda Races. “I enjoy spending time with people talking about boats and what they like about their boats. I especially love it when a buyer looking for the right boat finds it. A lot of the time you can tell right away that this is the one. “That’s what it is all about as a yacht broker for me; when you can put buyer together with sellers and make it all happen.” David’s home is outside of Easton, Md. and he is very familiar with the boating community on the Eastern Shore. With the office at Bert Jabins Yacht Yard, he often travels to Annapolis and gladly goes where the boats are when the opportunity arises. “Whether you have decided to sell your boat or are thinking of finding a good boat for you give me a call. I would love to make it happen for you.”
