Description

Built in 1965 by master builder Merrill Young at Lie-Nielsen's Lee Boat Shop in Rockland, Maine, Echo is 22 feet long with cedar planking on oak frames. Her first owner was William Thon, one of Maine's famous watercolorists. She has Harold Burnham-built Oceanus sails (2015) and comes with both electric and gas outboards and lots of gear. Her large cockpit represents her original purpose of a work platform that accommodates several people with a small cabin for two for overnighting. She has been well updated and maintained and is ready to sail at a very reasonable price.

Kathe and younger sister, Kim, grew up in the village of Manset in and out of their father's and grandfather's boat shops and on the water in various vessels. Sailing lessons and racing at camps and on the family boats were a large part of summers with family and friends. From the late '60s through early '80s, the family summer vacation was going to the Friendship Sloop Races on the family sloop. Kathe and her husband, Dan, live on Mount Desert Island and have five grown children and grandchildren. They both are USCG Master Captains and enjoy working and recreating on the water.
