Description

The Ted Irwin designed 52 Ketch was one of the early deck saloon cruisers, setting a trend that remains popular today. With over 250 hulls launched between 1976 and 1987, this solid cruiser remains popular with couples, families, and liveaboards.

The Irwin 52 was considered a trend-setting yacht when they were introduced. Ted Irwin was one of the first to introduce a deck-saloon cruiser, and the 52 may remain one of the most popular 50-foot-plus production boats ever.

The beamy ketch-rigged 52 offers motor yacht-like interior accommodations, with a spacious cockpit, wide bulwarks and wide side decks for safety, and is capable of good performance under sail or power.

Meander offers a comfortable three cabin layout with a very roomy main salon, comfortable master stateroom aft with island queen and two staterooms forward. Plenty of space for family and guests, with 6’6” headroom throughout.

Interior Accomodations and Layout

Five easy companionway steps from the cockpit you’ll find the Main Salon and three stateroom layout featuring two forward cabins and spacious master cabin aft. I’m often reluctant to use the word cavernous in describing a sailboat salon, but the Irwin 52 earns the title. The interior, with teak and holly flooring, is both welcoming and attractive. The comfortable living quarters of the salon feature an L-shaped settee to starboard, followed by the breakfast bar offering convenient access to the U-shaped galley. To port you’ll find the L-shaped convertible dinette and a proper navigation station with a top opening chart table, built in electronics and stereo system. The salon offers plenty of storage throughout including a pantry, lockers, storage under settees, shelves and counter space.

Starboard of the companionway you’ll find the galley area and breakfast bar. The U-shaped galley is one step down and features a large double stainless-steel sink, ample refrigerator and freezer capacity for extended voyages, lots of storage and cabinet space with plenty of counter prep area.

To the port of the companionway a passageway leads to the large master stateroom featuring a comfortable centerline queen berth, an L-shaped dressing settee with aft-bulkhead mirror and overhead spotlights. The master stateroom also provides abundant natural light, with plenty of storage in drawers, two hanging closets, lockers, and shelves. The ensuite head includes a vanity with a sink and manual head.

Galley

Starboard of the companionway you’ll find the galley area and breakfast bar. The U-shaped galley is one step down and features a large double stainless-steel sink, ample refrigerator, and freezer capacity for extended voyages, lots of storage and cabinet space with plenty of counter prep area.

Having spent his youth in Marblehead, Massachusetts, Mark gained a love for the water and a life-long fascination with everything nautical. At ten years old, a Boston Globe newspaper route along the harbor earned him the funds to purchase his first fixer-upper boat, and the passion became real.

After spending the first half of his career pursuing his other passion, working in the snow ski industry, Mark came full circle over twenty years ago, moving to the Chesapeake Bay and venturing head first into the nautical industry. In addition to working for a couple of the region's premier yacht brokerages, Mark also ran marinas and hospitality properties on the Eastern Shore through his hospitality consulting business. As the Manager at Bay Bridge Marina, he gained the opportunity to become a partner in one of the Mid-Atlantic’s premier sailboat and catamaran dealerships, and he set course on a new adventure here in Annapolis.

According to Mark, although he enjoyed assisting his talented team and steering the day-to-day business operations, he missed working directly with boat buyers and sellers and helping families make their nautical dreams a reality. When the opportunity came to retire from his ownership role, he set his course toward working with a Brokerage house he held in the highest regard for their professionalism and reputation, David Walters Yachts. Mark knows he will enjoy representing high-quality sailboats, powerboats, trawlers, and catamarans and assisting various owners and brokerage clients.

As a full-time Broker, Mark is very much looking forward to catching up with past clients, meeting some new friends, and working closely with each customer, assisting them in every aspect of buying or selling their dream boat. If you are in the market to purchase or sell a quality yacht or want to trade boating stories, please call Mark.
