Description

RESOLUTION is an excellent example of a 38 Heritage having gone through an extensive mechanical and electrical refit in 2020-2021.

With a sharp plumb bow and reverse transom the waterline length is maximized, allowing her to outperform her competitors while also resulting in impressive efficiency at cruise. Incorporation of an AquaDrive thrust bearing between the shaft and drivetrain allows the engine to be rubber mounted, isolating vibration underway while also eliminating the need for alignment as the twin CV joints compensate. The 38 Heritage offers ample outdoor living space to include a 90 sq. ft. cockpit with access to the conditioned salon and accommodations via twin sliding doors. From an accommodation standpoint, she offers a spacious V-berth below with a second HVAC system. The head is a single molded piece which makes for a maintenance free, easy to clean wet head with separate shower stall. For times when extra guests are aboard, the salon dinette converts into full double berth via motorized table and slides that allow seats to increase berth size significantly.

VESSEL WALKTHROUGH

INTRODUCTION:

Unique to RESOLUTION, with the exception of drivetrain and tanks, every component below the deck from bow thruster motor to cabin HVAC to pumps and charger/inverter as well as hoses and wiring was replaced during refit in 2020-2021. Completed by a reputable Chesapeake Bay boatbuilder, Matthews Brothers, no corners were cut and recommendations were granted with an open checkbook.

HULL AND DECK

True North incorporated Seemann Composites Resin Infusion Molding Process (SCRIMP). This technique utilizes a vacuum to pull catalyzed resin into a dry fiberglass cloth layup, which results in void-free laminates with very precise resin-to-fiberglass ratios.

Both 24" 4-bladed propeller and rudder are protected via fiberglass skeg that doubles as a keel which enhances tracking and following sea capabilities

GALLEY/SETTEE

As you enter through the twin sliding salon doors, you immediately notice the 360-degree visibility. To starboard is the efficient U-shaped galley with twin stainless undermounted sinks and removeable cutting board insert. Forward is a 3-burner Princess gas stove top with removeable Corian top. Below is a Tappan microwave flanked with ample drawer space to starboard and below. Forward of microwave is a large stainless Frigoboat DC powered refrigerator with freezer compartment on top portion and temperature control. Ample storage takes advantage of all remaining additional space to include (5) drawers and (1) larger cabinet.

Across from galley on port side, there is a large cabinet with ample storage while also housing salon AC unit. Forward is the convertible dining settee. In the closed position, it can comfortable accommodate four while when seats are extended and table leaf out, will increase capacity to seven with one at the head. When table and seats are in the extended position, a rocker switch at the helm lowers the table with filler cushions to make a full double berth.

HELM

The helm is located forward and to starboard with a single helm seat with bolster for standing. The navigator has a double width seat to port. Both seats have pivoting arm and foot rests.

Nicely laid out helm pod with Raymarine C120 MFD, autopilot, dedicated depth finder, dedicated Yanmar engine display, followed by rudder indicator bow thruster, spotlight and gear shift all the way to starboard.

Engine start panel is below throttle, with engine, house and parallel switch below. Sea-Fire engine shutdown override system and manual fire suppression pull below.

To port of the varnished teak Edison wheel are various DC switches, followed by new iCom IC-M330 VHF. Below is the new Fischer Panda Generator panel showing 7.5hrs of run time.

Further to port, just before the companionway door is the Racor Fuel/Water separator alarm with dimmable salon overhead lights below and three bilge pump controls.

Practically speaking, the helm layout is very well thought out with seemingly everything at your fingertips.

INTERIOR ACCOMMODATIONS

The interior accommodations are a combination of molded grey non-skid floor, white gelcoat bulkheads and tasteful satin varnished cherry on hull sides, head partition wall and cabinet/drawer faces.

INTERIOR LAYOUT

From the pilothouse, there is a two-piece smoked plexiglass sliding door and hatch that retracts within the bulkhead. Two teak steps, that double as storage, take you to the accommodations.

V-berth size was maximized based on available space resulting in a non-symmetrical V-berth with filler piece. Reading lights are located port and starboard aft. A shelf above the berth follows the hull side and provide great additional storage.

HEAD

One-piece molded head eliminates leaks due to aging caulk and flexing in seaway.

While a wet head, the separate shower head, control and seat makes for a roomy space. Storage below sink, to port of sink and behind mirrors, offer ample storage for toiletries.

ELECTRICAL

Immediately to starboard as you descend the companionway steps is the main distribution panel. The top third is dedicated to the Inverter/Charger display and voltage and current displays with battery selector switch. The bottom 2/3rds of the panel manages the 120V AC system including ship to shore selector switches, breakers and separate voltage and current displays as well as Shore 1 vs. Shore 2 selector toggle. Below the AC panel is the dedicated Pearson Yacht DC panel with well identified push button breakers.

MECHANICAL

Primary access to mechanical space is via a large electric hatch in salon that provides excellent access to engine, generator and all mechanical systems in space.

Secondary access is just forward and provides access to backside of generator, sea strainers, vacuflush head system, steering reservoir and mid ship bilge pump. With removable floor to access bilge, this space can double as additional storage for spare parts, tools, etc.

Additional Descriptions

Take a close look at our specifications and equipment lists for the Sport, Heritage, and Classic models. You'll see how much thinking went into the True North 38 series.

The True North 38 is an ideal size for a couple with or without kids. There's plenty of room for supplies and gear for a two-week vacation, and several owners have taken more ambitious, lengthy cruises. You'll be very comfortable yet not burdened by all the hard-to-maintain gadgets that have made boating too complicated and expensive. Equally appealing is how easy it is to make the boat ready for those spur-of-the- moment adventures. With a True North 38, you'll find yourself taking her out more often without the need for time-consuming preparation. Just hop onboard and go. When you return, sweep it down, hose it off and she'll be ready for you next time. Of course being comfortable is vitally important at sea, and the True North 38 boasts an incredibly soft and comfortable ride even in rough conditions. They have often been spotted going out an inlet or protected harbor in conditions that keep much larger yachts tied up at the dock. When things turn nasty, you can depend on your True North 38 to get you home safely.

Very cleverly, the dinette area can be expanded when needed and does not take up too much space when just a few people are onboard. Its innovative, sliding seat arrangement expands seating from four to six people and easily converts into a double berth for overnight guests. Our answer to cruising with young children is an optional "sleeping loft" above the twin v-berths. Put the kids down early, and you have the rest of the boat to yourself. Easy entertaining is high on everyone's list, so we kept the galley up, near the cockpit. Thirsty, hungry crew can step up to the counter from the cockpit without worrying about wet bathing suits or sandy feet. And whomever has galley duty will have no complaints, as the 360? view is the best view onboard.

Of course, all this well thought-out space is no fun if you're busy maintaining and fixing things. So everything about the True North 38 is designed to keep things simple. Starting with the dependable, single diesel engine and well-protected prop and shaft, the True North 38 takes its cue from the legendary New England workboats. You'll find no extra fluff and frills, just the things you need to enjoy your experience on the water.
