About

2000 Custom Carolina Bennett Bros 47

Bennett Brothers Yachts was a custom boat builder founded by Paul and Patricia Bennett in Stamford, CT in 1986 and relocated to Wilmington, NC in 1989 for its ideal boat building location on the protected shores of the NE Cape Fear River. With a highly skilled team of master craftsmen, the Bennett Brothers yard expertly built custom sailing yachts and sportfishing boats in the 40ft plus range, constructing each boat for offshore comfort and reliability, priding themselves on crafting the perfect ride. Bennett Brothers’ solid worldwide reputation in the boating industry and community as fine builders and meticulous craftsmen, lead to the ABBRA (American Boat Builders & Repairers Assoc.) award for Excellence in Customer Care in 2015.

Working with the client’s own naval architect and interior designer, Bennett Brothers was capable of building a custom luxury yacht up to 100ft. Handcrafted custom yachts required 20,000 to 40,000 manhours to build, depending on the length, or 10-20 master boatbuilders working for a year! About 20-25 custom-built Bennetts are currently sailing or motoring the world’s oceans, making the 2000 Custom Carolina style Bennett Brothers 47ft sportfish, a rare opportunity. The 2 Stateroom/2 Head layout sportfish has been extensively updated and upgraded. She was constructed of fiberglass composite, using Kevlar and carbon fiber reinforcements for added strength and durability. Balsa and foam coring in varying compositions reduced weight where needed.

Unlike most Carolina style sportfish, the 47ft Bennett Brothers hull features a pointy “clipper bow,” most likely a modification by noted naval architect, Lou Codega, known in the industry as the “hull man,” who modified the hull design by Lee Dana (retired Bertram engineer famed for crafting the original 54’ Bertram with designer David Napier). Lou Codega was highly influenced by sailing yacht design, hence the “clipper bow” designed for excellent seakeeping, which is Codega’s primary focus as “the key to a safe and enjoyable boating experience.” A smooth, comfortable, dry ride that doesn’t slam into waves and chop, along with a hull that is stable, tracks straight, and is predictable at speed, are Codega’s characteristics of excellent seakeeping that were designed and built into her hull.
