Electric Engine

Electric Motor System in Klexy a T32 Race Boat

The electric motor in the T32 boat is a 10 kw three phase brushless motor. The three phase power is provided by the controller which converts the 50 + volts dc from the two Torqeedo 24 volt,105 ampere hour lithium batteries into 3 phase power. There are 2 Torqeedo battery chargers, one for each battery. These charger are dedicated to the batteries used by the motor.

The motor is a direct drive to the saildrive, thus 1000 rpm of the motor is also 1000 rpm on the Gori 13 inch bronze 2 blade folding propeller. At 1000 RPM the power of the 10 kw electric motor is equivalent to approximately a 15 hp gasoline motor.

The electric motor system with the batteries fully charged will push the boat approximately 10 nm at about 4 knots per hour in flat water
